In the '80s, it was full of clubs with indie bands local and imported and R&B/blues bands. Near the Seabus ferry terminal, Lonsdale Quay Market is home to fashion shops and a mix of food vendors serving fish and chips, souvlaki and Asian dishes. But although disco is said to have died in 1979, with punk increasingly running low on enticing aesthetic ideas and rap's then popular perception as being little more than a passing fad, the early 1980s produced one of the most productive and intriguing periods in dance music history.
